2025 to see Australia play West Indies in 3-test series after both the boards strike an agreement to add extra game.
2025 will see an increase in the number of test matches played by Australia by one. Following an agreement between the two boards to add an additional match to the original schedule. Australia will play three Test matches during their tour to the West Indies next year.
For the first time since 2015 and the first time in the Caribbean since Australia’s 2-0 victory in 2012, the two teams will play each other for three Test matches or longer. With a minimum requirement of two Test matches, the series will be the first for both sides in the upcoming World Test Championship cycle.
Shamar Joseph led the West Indies to a seven-run victory at the Gabba in the previous series between the teams, which was played in Australia earlier this year, and ended 1-1. For the first time in twenty-one years, the West Indies defeated Australia.
Nick Hockley, the CEO of Cricket Australia, confirmed the extension of the Test series on Saturday after it was first reported by Nine media.
“I am really glad that is going to manifest,” he told SEN radio. “We’re still waiting for an official announcement from the West Indies Cricket Board. That is set to be around precise dates and precise locations. But it will be a three-Test series which is obviously big.
“It’s another great opportunity. The World Test Championship prescribed that we needed to play two, at least two. But really, for the fans and for the players. You don’t want to be stuck in the position when it’s one-one and everyone is feeling unsatisfied.”
Hockley has already expressed a desire for at least three Test matches in a series. He will stand down in March and be replaced by Todd Greenberg. “We’ll keep advocating and championing that. Really advocating for three-Test series as an absolute minimum,” he said earlier this year.
The three matches, which are anticipated to begin in late June, could be held in Barbados, Grenada, or Jamaica. Three ODIs and three T20Is are also scheduled as part of the current Future Tours Program.
Australia is vying for a spot in the WTC final this year. It will be held from June 11–15 at Lord’s.
