5th T20i preview as Australia look to salvage series leveler as the Gabba surface may not be quite as conducive for spin.
Australia look for a final lift to earn share of T20 series in the 5th T20i.
The series has completely changed as a result of India’s outstanding bowling performances in Hobart and the Gold Coast, where they tricked Australia with spin. Josh Hazlewood’s hold over India’s hitters earlier in the series seems like a long time ago as a shorthanded Australia faces the prospect of losing the series because their front-line players aren’t focussing on the Ashes.
Australia may rescue a tie in the fifth and final Twenty20 International at the Gabba, but they cannot win the series. Ahead of the rapidly coming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, Australia’s hierarchy has a few things to consider, despite the fact that the Ashes are receiving nearly all of the nation’s focus and this series is receiving very little attention.
When playing against the proper opponent or on speedier courts, Australia’s all-out offensive strategy can seem amazing. However, in game four, this high-voltage batting order was unable to perform on a slower Gold Coast surface. After creating a solid foundation, Australia was soundly defeated by Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar.
Australia is unsure of their ability to withstand strong spin attempts because the T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in potentially spin-friendly conditions. Although a quicker Gabba pitch is unlikely to offer solutions, Australia will seek a boost in confidence and to avoid losing T20Is for the third time in a row.
With the exception of a single game in 2007–08, India has never lost a T20I series in Australia, despite a slow start to the series. As they aim to become the first nation to successfully defend their T20 World Cup title, India has demonstrated why they are so difficult to defeat in this format with their abundance of spinners.
Even though a Hazlewood-less assault is a little less frightening, India will face a struggle in Brisbane after the conditions were favourable for them in the previous two games. The focus will be on how their top-order can perform.
If they seal a series triumph, India will head home feeling well pleased ahead of a T20 World Cup they will start as favourites.
