{Saba Sports News] San Antonio Spurs newcomer Victor Wembanyama didn’t exactly win over Toronto Raptors guard Dennis Schroder during their game earlier this week.
The Spurs were comfortably ahead of the Raptors, leading 54-35 with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first half at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. During a play, Raptors star Pascal Siakam was fouled, and as he swung the ball to Dennis Schroder on the left wing, Wembanyama ended up on the floor as he tried to close out on Schroder.
Schroder, the German player, extended a hand to help up Wembanyama, who is French, but Wembanyama declined the offer. In response, Schroder seemed to mutter, “I was trying to help you up,” but Wembanyama didn’t appreciate the gesture.
Interestingly, Wembanyama and Schroder found themselves matched up against each other multiple times during the game. At one point in overtime, Wembanyama even defended Schroder full-court, and they exchanged words at various moments in the game.
San Antonio had a substantial lead, at one point up by 22 points, and maintained a 15-point advantage going into the fourth quarter. However, the Raptors made a comeback, outscoring the Spurs 39-24 in the final quarter, ultimately forcing overtime. The Raptors secured a 123-116 victory in OT.
In terms of individual performance, Schroder finished the game with 24 points and 6 assists, while Wembanyama contributed 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 blocks.
