[Saba Sports News] The rising rookie sensation from the San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama, put on an incredible performance against Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns last Thursday. Wembanyama scored a career-high 38 points, grabbed ten rebounds, and recorded two blocks, leading the Spurs to a 132-121 victory. He displayed his scoring prowess at all three levels, exhibited exceptional basketball IQ on both offense and defense, and posed a constant threat to the opposing defense every time he had the ball. You can view some of Wembanyama’s highlights from the game here.
Almost as astonishing as Wembanyama’s on-court heroics was a viral photo capturing him standing next to the Suns’ star player, Kevin Durant. As they stood near the paint, waiting for a free-throw attempt in the second half, Wembanyama humorously loomed over Durant, creating a visual spectacle reminiscent of a Penn & Teller magic show.
Durant, officially listed at 6-foot-10 but often believed to be closer to seven feet tall, is renowned in NBA history for being a dynamic perimeter scorer and ball-handler with the physical presence of a true big man. However, he may have encountered his physical match in the form of a 7-foot-4 Frenchman affectionately known as “Wemby.”
It’s evident that the league is still adjusting to the awe-inspiring presence of Victor Wembanyama. Just a few months ago, he made another NBA player, who was even taller than Durant, appear diminutive in comparison.
