[Saba Sports News] In a historic and heartwarming moment, West Indies legend Chris Gayle congratulated Rohit Sharma for breaking his record of the most international sixes. Both cricketers, wearing their iconic national jerseys with the number 45, shared a memorable moment.
Rohit now holds the record with 556 international sixes in just 473 innings, surpassing Gayle’s 551. ‘The Universe Boss’ took to social media platform ‘X’ to express his admiration, captioning his post, ‘Congrats, Most Sixes in International cricket. #45 Special.’
Rohit is the only cricketer besides Gayle to exceed 500 international sixes. In ODIs, he ranks third with 298 sixes, following Shahid Afridi (351) and Chris Gayle (331). Among active players, England’s Jos Buttler sits 12th with 165, and India’s former captain, Virat Kohli, stands 19th with 142.
Rohit broke several records during his innings, including surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s World Cup centuries record and Ricky Ponting’s ODI centuries record. He now ranks third in the all-time most ODI centuries list, behind Kohli and Tendulkar. In the same innings, he also broke Kapil Dev’s record for the fastest ODI century by an Indian in World Cup history, achieving it in just 63 balls.
