[Saba Sports News] Anthony Davis has issued a warning to the Denver Nuggets during Media Day on Monday, making it clear that the defending champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, have taken note of their actions.
The Nuggets were responsible for eliminating the Lakers from the playoffs last year, sweeping them in a four-game series during the Western Conference Finals.
Speaking to Lakers legend James Worthy on Spectrum SportsNet, Davis conveyed his message to the Nuggets, emphasizing that there was a lot of talk from their side after defeating the Lakers. He acknowledged that the Nuggets had emerged victorious, but both he and LeBron James are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to face them again.
“It was just a lot of talking,” said Davis. “It was just so much of that going on. Like alright, we get it, y’all won. But me and Bron [LeBron James] had some conversations like, ‘We can’t wait [to play them again].’”
Although the Nuggets players didn’t engage in excessive taunting following their victory over the Lakers (excluding Bruce Brown, who is no longer with the team), it was ironically their head coach, Michael Malone, who seemed to enjoy taking verbal shots at the Lakers. Malone appeared to be irritated by the media’s constant praise of the Lakers and made sure to troll them on numerous occasions after eliminating them from the playoffs.
Denver’s triumph over the Lakers, which eventually led to an NBA championship, served as payback for the Lakers’ victory over the Nuggets in the 2020 Western Conference Finals, which also resulted in a title. While a rematch in the next postseason is uncertain, it is evident that Anthony Davis and the Lakers are eager for the opportunity to settle the score.
