[Saba Sports News] Pakistan captain Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi were reportedly involved in an argument inside the dressing room following the team’s exit from the Asia Cup 2023.
Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka in the must-win match of the Asia Cup 2023 by two wickets and were subsequently eliminated from the tournament.
According to reports that surfaced, Babar, while addressing the team in the dressing room after Pakistan’s loss to Sri Lanka in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, expressed his disappointment with the players for their lack of responsible play.
During the speech, Shaheen interrupted him, suggesting that he should acknowledge those who performed well with both bat and ball. Babar did not take kindly to this interruption and replied, “I’m aware of who’s performing well and who’s not”. This led to an argument that escalated until Pakistan wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan intervened to defuse the situation.
However, on Tuesday, Shaheen put a full stop to the rumours and dispelled them by posting a picture on his official “X” handle, sitting alongside Babar Azam, with the caption “Family.”
Babar Azam had an average Asia Cup 2023, considering the standards he has set for himself. He played just one strong innings against Nepal that saw him scoring 151 runs off 131 balls. However, in the remaining matches, he struggled, accumulating scores of 17, 10, and 29.
In contrast, Shaheen had a good tournament, claiming 10 scalps in five games with a bowling average of 23.50, ending as the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the competition.
