Malaysian world diving champion Zhang Junhong has announced his retirement. Zhang Junhong is Malaysia’s first ever diving world champion.
Zhang Junhong, 31, has won many accolades for Malaysia during his career. In the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Zhang Junhong won the silver medal in the synchronized 10m platform with Delela Pan. In 2017, Zhang won a gold medal in the women’s 10m platform singles and a bronze in the 10m platform synchro at the World Championships. After coming back from the Olympics, I focused on healing injuries and recovering as quickly as possible. Although there is a certain age, but age is only a number, I have been through a lot in the injury part, and I have been learning how to deal with it, at least I know I can. No athlete is free from injuries, relying on active treatment and tenacious face. I want to continue to win honor for the country, but I have to accept the decision because it is true that I did not renew my contract.
