[Saba Sports News] Memphis Grizzlies’ head coach Taylor Jenkins expressed strong disapproval of the officiating following their Friday game against the Utah Jazz. The Grizzlies, playing at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, were defeated 127-121.
Throughout the game, Jenkins and his team seemed increasingly agitated with the referees’ decisions. This tension peaked late in the third quarter. Grizzlies All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. was particularly upset after scoring a basket he believed warranted an additional free throw. His vehement protest towards referee Karl Lane led to Jackson receiving two quick technical fouls, resulting in his ejection. Jenkins was also given a technical foul.
In the postgame press conference, Jenkins did not mince words about the officiating. He invited reporters to “saddle up” for his blunt assessment, calling it one of the most poorly officiated games he’s ever witnessed.
The Grizzlies faced a higher number of fouls in the game, with 23 calls against them compared to 17 for the Jazz. With star player Ja Morant still out due to a 25-game suspension, Memphis is struggling to secure victories and holds the NBA’s worst record at 1-8 following their loss to the Jazz.
