[Saba Sports News] The LA Clippers, facing a shortage of capable big men, are reportedly considering a trade move. Shams Charania from The Athletic has revealed that the team is interested in veteran center Daniel Theis, currently with the Indiana Pacers but not active in their current rotation.
This consideration follows the injury of Clippers’ backup center Mason Plumlee, who suffered an MCL sprain in his left knee during a game against the New York Knicks. Plumlee’s injury, caused by a collision with Knicks forward Julius Randle, could sideline him for up to two months, although it’s not expected to be season-ending.
With only Ivica Zubac as their main option, the Clippers’ backup options are limited to the significantly smaller PJ Tucker, and young players Moussa Diabate and Kobe Brown. This situation is less than ideal for a team aspiring for an NBA championship.
Theis, a former standout in the Basketball Bundesliga and a recent gold medalist with Germany in the FIBA World Cup, is known for his strong play despite his 6-foot-8 stature. At 31, he hasn’t played for the Pacers this season as they focus on younger talent.
Acquiring Theis, possibly for second-round picks, could provide the Clippers with much-needed support in the absence of Plumlee.
