[Saba Sports News] In the 33rd ODI World Cup 2023 match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, India faced Sri Lanka. During the second innings, as Sri Lanka batted, the Mumbai crowd chanted “Kohli Ko Ball Do” and urged Indian captain Rohit Sharma to let Virat Kohli bowl as he mimicked a bowling action.
Sri Lanka’s top order struggled against Indian fast bowlers in the match. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and chose to field in hot and humid conditions. India had a shaky start, losing Rohit Sharma on the second ball to Dilshan Madhushanka’s outswinger.
However, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill formed a strong partnership, adding 189 runs for the second wicket. Gill scored 92, while Kohli made 88. Shreyas Iyer followed with an aggressive innings, scoring 82 off 56 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with powerful shots, propelling India to a total of 357 in 50 overs.
In response, Sri Lanka struggled against India’s pace attack. Jasprit Bumrah took an early wicket, and Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc, with Shami securing a five-wicket haul. Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 55 runs, resulting in India winning by a massive margin of 302 runs. Shami was named Man of the Match for his exceptional bowling performance.
