Sherfane Rutherford adds to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ woes as he announces his withdrawal from the 2024 CPL season.
The left-handed batsman has cited family reasons as the reason for withdrawal, according to a statement by the CPL.
The absence of Sherfane Rutherford adds to the already mounting problems that the Patriots are facing at the start of the season.
The CPL statement further adds that a replacement for Rutherford will be named in due course.
26-year-old Rutherford played only 4 games for the Patriots and has scored 35 runs at 194.44 this season.
While Patriots do have Dominic Drakes in his stead, the issue is that Drakes is more of a bowling all-rounder.
After leaving the field after a two-over period with the ball, Patriots all-rounder Kyle Mayers is also doubtful due to injury. The broadcasters speculated that Mayers may have suffered a hamstring injury.
Patriots have already faced player turnover at the start of the season with Sikandar Raza, Hasaranga, and Stubbs withdrawing from the tournament.
Patriots are currently rooted to the bottom of the CPL 2024 table with a solitary win in six matches.
They have lost 11 completed games on the bounce at Basseterre which have added to the woes as well.
“I must say thanks, but we disappointed them [the St Kitts and Nevis crowd],” Patriots’ captain Andre Fletcher said after the game. “It’s hard and I would like to apologise as the leader as well, saying sorry for not giving them a win on home soil. But all is not lost, we still have four more games left. We still have to go out there play the cricket and play hard and we will try to win the next four.”
The Patriots will hope to improve in their remaining fixtures of the season.
