Shakib al Hasan will play one game in the County Championship for Surrey after his move was confirmed by the club.
Before the much-anticipated series vs India later this month, Shakib al Hasan will play for Surrey to ensure his match fitness.
Bangladesh are currently on a high after a 2-0 whitewash of Pakistan, giving them their first-ever away series win.
Shakib will play for Surrey in their game vs Somerset at Taunton this week.
While Surrey are looking to win 3 in a row, they will have to do so without their English core. They are currently top of the heap, 24 points ahead of their upcoming opponents.
Alec Stewart, Surrey’s Cricket Director maintained it was a very easy call to sign Shakib.
“When the opportunity to bring a player like Shakib to the club came along, it was an easy decision.”
“Shakib brings a wealth of experience and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey.”
Shakib has expressed his pleasure to represent the team and expressed his eagerness to play his best cricket for them.
“Surrey are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world and I am pleased to represent the club”
Tom Curran has also been persuaded by Surrey to play first-class cricket for the first time in two years, given the large number of players who are sidelined.
Despite having declared in February 2023 that he was quitting red-ball cricket “for my body and for my mental health,” Curran has been included in a group of fifteen players that will be heading to Taunton this week.
Jacks, Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith, Sam Curran, Jamie Overton, and Reece Topley are the other players absent from Surrey’s roster, however they have still included seven international players. Brett Randell, a New Zealand seamer on a short-term contract, is part of the Somerset team.
