Moin Khan speaks out on PCB’s harsh Azam Khan treatment after failing to give him a consistent run in the side.
Moin Khan, former Pakistan skipper and wicketkeeper has voiced his displeasure on the treatment towards his son Azam Khan.
Khan believes that a lack of games for Azam has resulted in his confidence taking a massive beating.
Azam Khan’s last game for Pakistan came in the T20 World Cup against the USA. He was dismissed for a first-ball duck as Pakistan lost to USA in the Super Over. He was subsequently dropped for the remainder of the tournament as Pakistan crashed out of the group stages.
“I watched the entire World Cup and the matches leading up to it. It seemed like Azam was the number one choice for wicketkeeping and batting. Then suddenly, after just one match, the entire strategy was changed.”
“Azam wasn’t given a chance to keep wickets after one match. He was even dropped after getting out first ball, Moin added. Any player can get out on the first ball. But the tradition of developing players is sadly absent nowadays”.
Azam has faced a gamut of questions throughout his career related to his fitness. While Moin agrees to it to a certain extent, he says that Azam has been working hard on that area.
“I’m not saying that all the blame lies with the team management, Azam has his shortcomings too. He needs to make himself physically and mentally stronger and follow fitness routines of other athletes.
“For the past month or so, I’ve noticed he’s been working hard to improve his fitness. I hope Azam has learned a lot from this experience.”
Azam is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League for the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
