Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris to turn up for WA in the ODI cup ahead of the domestic season.
Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris, the injury-riddled Australian pace duo will finally make their return to domestic cricket.
For their initial One-Day Cup matches against New South Wales and South Australia, which take place on Sunday and Tuesday, respectively, at Cricket Central in Sydney, both quicks have been chosen in Western Australia’s 14-man team.
Since sustaining a side strain during his second ODI in February, which ended his season, Morris has not participated in any level of cricket. Despite not experiencing any pain, routine scans performed in the off-season revealed a hot area in his back. Morris was not selected for Australia’s limited-overs tour of the United Kingdom. He also was not allowed to participate in Major League Cricket.
Richardson, on the other hand, did participate in winter league play following a horrific sequence of shoulder and hamstring ailments in previous seasons. In August, he participated in three Top End T20 Series matches in Darwin for Perth Scorchers after playing one IPL match for Delhi Capitals.
Richardson’s comeback to domestic 50-over cricket is a positive development. It remains unclear if he will be ready to play Sheffield Shield first-class cricket again in October.
In addition to Behrendorff and Tye, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar has been named in the team after deciding to become a freelancer.
Josh Inglis is away on national duty, therefore it appears that Cameron Bancroft will be keeping wicket for Western Australia. After relocating to New South Wales, Josh Philippe, a former backup wicketkeeper-battler and 50-over opener for Western Australia, will play his former team for the first time on Sunday. Philippe played in all three One-Day Cups and won Player of the Tournament in 2022–2023. He was a major contributor to Western Australia’s hat-trick of victories.
WA are looking to become the first men’s side in Australian One-Day domestic history to claim four consecutive titles, even as they have won five of the last seven.
