Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin played a crucial role in India’s dominant 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Chennai. After the match, Ashwin shared a special moment with his wife, Prithi, and their two daughters.
Ashwin, who completed a remarkable double by scoring a century and taking six wickets in the same match, marked his fourth such double and second consecutive one at his home ground, Chepauk.
Reflecting on his connection to the venue, Ashwin said, “Every time I come here it feels special. I don’t know if there is some energy in this ground that gets me going.
” He humorously mentioned how his wife had complained that he didn’t notice her on the first day of the match. “For me, it’s very difficult to look out for the family when you’re in the middle of a game. But I do make a conscious effort because the children are always asking why I didn’t say hi,” he shared in a BCCI video.
Although his family teased him for not spotting them in the crowd, Ashwin explained that his focus on the game often makes it hard to notice them. However, he tries to wave to his daughters whenever he can. The 37-year-old spinner also achieved a significant milestone by equaling Shane Warne’s record of 37 five-wicket hauls.
With this win, India moved to the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, boasting a PCT of 71.67. Australia follows in second place with a PCT of 62.50, while Bangladesh slipped to sixth with a PCT of 39.29.
