England lost the first two ODIs of the five-match series against Australia but bounced back with a win in the third. Despite this, some players have struggled to adapt to the format, raising concerns ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
With key players like Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Chris Woakes absent due to injuries or retirement, England has fielded a young team lacking experience together.
Will Jacks commented on the team’s challenges, noting that the lack of regular 50-over cricket has made finding rhythm difficult.
“With the lack of 50-over cricket that we play now, finding that tempo can be difficult. The schedule only allows what it allows, and that’s for people above us to determine,” Jacks told *The Mirror*. He expressed optimism, saying, “This is our first time together as a squad, so it’s going to take time, but we’re progressing every game.”
Jacks played a key role in England’s 46-run (DLS method) win in the third ODI, scoring 84 and forming a crucial 156-run partnership with captain Harry Brook. His performance has likely secured his place in the ODI middle order.
