Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the fourth player to hit sixes off his first two balls in Test cricket, with three of the four players on this list being Indian.
On Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur, after dismissing the visitors for 233, Indian openers Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out with aggressive intent.
Yashasvi hit three boundaries in the first over, while Rohit faced Khaled Ahmed and wasted no time. He charged down the pitch on the first ball, smashing it over long-on for a six, followed by a powerful pull shot over deep square leg for another maximum.
With these two shots, Rohit joined Foffie Williams, Sachin Tendulkar, and Umesh Yadav in the elite club.
Williams first achieved the feat against Jim Laker in 1948, followed by Tendulkar against Nathan Lyon in 2013, and Umesh Yadav, who hit George Linde for back-to-back sixes in 2019.
Interestingly, MS Dhoni was the first Indian to hit a six off his first ball in a Test innings, doing so against Pedro Collins in 2006, followed by Zaheer Khan against Tim Southee in 2012.
Rohit’s quickfire 23 off 11 balls, including one four and three sixes, gave India the momentum to push for a result in the rain-affected Test.
