
Dominic Solanke included in Lee Carsley’s latest England squad for their games against Greece and Finland next week.
Dominic Solanke is back in the England side after a 7-year absence. He has a solitary appearance for the Three Lions, in a friendly against Brazil.
The 27-year-old striker, who signed a £55 million summer transfer from Bournemouth, has been rewarded for his outstanding play at Tottenham.
Harry Maguire, however, has been left out. this in spite of the fact that he was cleared to play on Thursday night against Porto for Manchester United. Due to an injury, the 31-year-old missed Euro 2024; nonetheless, Carsley summoned him up for the two Nations League matches in September. He did not play against Finland at Wembley, but he did start the match against Ireland in Dublin.
Carsley said of the decision to omit Maguire: “Harry’s a player I’ve worked with in the past. He was very positive in the conversation we had. I was wary about having conversations going on too long because he has a game tonight it was a case of talking why the decision was. We have some really good centre-backs that I’m keen to see play. Harry’s still got a really important part to play in this squad and campaign.”
Additionally, there were no spots available for Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen, or Tino Livramento; nevertheless, Kyle Walker made a comeback after being left off the team in September.
Solanke has scored in his last three Spurs games and is expected to play in the Nations League matches against Finland in Helsinki three days later and Greece at Wembley next Thursday.
Solanke told the Observer recently that one of his principal ambitions for the season was to earn an England callup. “Everyone wants to play for their country and it’s definitely something I’m looking to get back into,” he said.
“Was England a part of the idea behind my transfer? Not really. But if you are doing your stuff for a club like Tottenham, it is definitely a lot easier to get into the fold. Tottenham is my main aim. But then hopefully I can get into the England team.”
