Jürgen Klopp set to make footballing return as head of the Red Bull football group 4 months after leaving the Liverpool job.
Jürgen Klopp is back in the world of football, but not as a coach or manager. Instead, he has taken the job of the head of the soccer project at Red Bull.
“After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this”. Said Klopp, who starts the job on 1 January. “The role may have changed. But my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not.”
According to German reports, he has an agreement with the multi-club organisation, which is sponsored by the beverage industry, that permits him to seek for the position of head coach of the German national team in the event that Julian Nagelsmann steps down. Before Euro 2024, Nagelsmann signed a contract extension. It is anticipated that he will captain the squad to the 2026 World Cup.
At the end of the previous season, Klopp left Liverpool after nearly eight years on Merseyside. He has continued to be active on social media and was spotted cheering on his close friend, New Zealand badminton star Wojtek Czyz, at the Paralympics in Paris.
Klopp’s appointment is due to be made official at a press conference in mid-January. However, his start date is New Year’s Day. A Red Bull statement said: “He will not be involved in day-to-day operations but will oversee a group of clubs that bring the kind of intensity that became his own calling card as a coach.”
In July 2022, after a friendly between Liverpool and RB Salzburg, Klopp praised the organisation. “What Red Bull is doing is a really interesting project, I have to say. They kind of change every year, they sell players but still a good team. It’s really interesting what they are doing. The football philosophy is not too far away from ours as well.”
