United’s Amorim pursuit hits snag with notice period duration of thirty days the only final bit to be agreed upon.
United’s push to appoint Rúben Amorim as their manager is being held up by negotiations with Sporting regarding his 30-day notice period.
United wants Amorim to be available for Sunday’s visit to Chelsea and has told the Portuguese champions that they want to pay his €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause. However, this may not be feasible until talks reach a consensus.
United hosts Everton in the Premier League on December 1st after playing six games over the next 30 days. The United executive is certain that the 39-year-old will be hired far in advance of that date.
After Sporting beat Nacional in the Portuguese cup on Tuesday, Amorim said: “Nobody knows if it was my last match. It’s something still not decided … When and if I take that decision I will say it.” Sporting play at home to Estrela Amadora in the league on Friday night.
Sporting find themselves at the top of the table, winning all nine of their league games. They also are in good health in the Champions league as well, with 7 points out of a possible 9 in their first three fixtures.
Amorim’s departure would mean that this would be the club’s second high-profile departure in the space of a few weeks. Earlier it was revealed that current Sporting DoF Hugo Viana would be joining Manchester City to replace the outgoing Txiki Begiristain from February.
