PGMOL continue their David Coote probe with the refereeing body aiming to keep his personal welfare in mind.
PGMOL continue to say Premier League official David Coote’s ongoing “welfare” is “important to us” as its investigation into his conduct continues.
Last week, Coote was placed on leave by the PGMOL while an inquiry into a video that surfaced showed the 42-year-old making what appeared to be derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was conducted.
The Football Association also started looking into the footage, which the PGMOL is treating as authentic but the BBC has not confirmed.
“We are following an internal process and taking the allegations into David Coote’s conduct very seriously as part of our ongoing full and thorough investigation,” the PGMOL said in a statement.
“Whilst David remains suspended, his welfare continues to be important to us and he is aware of the support network available to him.”
The regulatory body of European football, Uefa, has suspended Coote and opened its own inquiry.
The Sun newspaper released images purporting to be from this summer’s European Championship after the first film was made public. The images purport to show Coote sniffing a white powder through a rolled-up US banknote.
Coote, who has been officiating Premier League games since 2018, served as an official in the Euros.
Additionally, Coote has been contacted for response because the images have not been independently authenticated.
