Greaves and Jangoo added to the Windies squad for B’desh ODI series as the only two changes from England series win.
Greaves and Jangoo called up for West Indies’ ODIs against Bangladesh.
Amir Jangoo, a batsman and wicketkeeper, has been called up for the first time to the West Indies ODI team for the three-match series against Bangladesh. After missing the home series against England early last month, all-rounder Justin Greaves also returns to the ODI lineup.
In the domestic Super50 ODI event, which ended late last month under unusual circumstances when the two finalists, Barbados Pride and Jamaica Scorpions, chose not to attend the toss and forfeit the final, Jangoo and Greaves were both awarded for their steady play.
Having scored 446 runs in seven innings at 89.20, including three fifties and a century, Jangoo, a player for Trinidad & Tobago, was the tournament’s top scorer. Greaves, on the other hand, finished second in terms of runs scored, scoring 401 runs at 133.66 in five innings, including three consecutive hundreds. In last week’s opening match, which the West Indies won by 201 runs, he also got his first Test century against Bangladesh.
“Greaves is capable of batting anywhere in the top six and brings that genuine all-round ability to the squad, which is welcomed at this stage,” West Indies head coach Daren Sammy was quoted via a press release. “Jangoo’s prowess in the CG United Super50 shows his flexibility to bring another dimension to our batting unit.”
“We continue to build towards the main target of the Men’s 50-over World Cup where we are looking to broaden the pool of players even with the short-term objectives of winning series, especially at home and building momentum on the recent win against England,” Sammy said.
