Marc Broom is Middlesex’s first full-time women’s head coach as he takes new role after success with previous teams.
Marc Broom has been appointed as Middlesex’s first full-time Women’s Head Coach.
Prior to taking up the position, Broom served as Sunrisers’ assistant head coach from 2022 to 2024, during which time the team won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in the last year of the Elite Women’s regionalised competition.
After playing as a second XI player for two seasons and representing Middlesex age groups from Under-11 to Under-19, Broom started his coaching career at Eastcote Cricket Club more than 20 years ago. He stayed actively involved there for many years, holding a variety of coaching positions and serving as Director of Cricket from 2018 to 2022.
In addition to coaching the Hillingdon Borough team, he was the Middlesex Academy’s fielding and wicket-keeping lead while working with the Club’s Elite Player Group. He was also the Lead Coach of Middlesex’s U12s County Age Group and the South regional route lead.
Prior to joining Sunrisers as Assistant Head Coach in 2022, he worked with Nic Pothas and the Men’s professional team in 2020. He later served as the team’s fielding and wicket-keeping coach under Richard Johnson and Rory Coutts.
Additionally, he served as the assistant coach and fielding/wicket-keeping lead for London Spirit Women, notably during their 2024 Women’s Hundred campaign.
“I am genuinely honoured, privileged and excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the new phase of Middlesex Women’s cricket as Head Coach,” Broom said.
“It’s a fantastic time to be involved in Women’s cricket and the game is developing so quickly in all areas, and to have the responsibility of supporting the talented group of players through what is going to be a challenging but ultimately rewarding journey is one I’m going to relish!
“The last three years with the Sunrisers have been unbelievable, and I’ve learned so much from both the coaching staff and players, especially Andy Tennant whose knowledge and experience as Head Coach have highlighted the processes needed to achieve the success possible.
“I can’t wait to get going and seeing where this team can go and what they can achieve”.
