Mykhailo Mudryk of Chelsea fails drug test as Premier League statement confirms the same about Ukraine international.
Mykhailo Mudryk has failed a drugs test, the Premier League club has confirmed.
An “adverse finding in a routine urine test” prompted the Football Association to get in touch with the Blues.
Chelsea says they will try to determine what caused the test result, and Ukraine international Mudryk denies intentionally using any prohibited substance.
“This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened,” Mudryk wrote on Instagram.
“I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon.”
Which prohibited drug was discovered in Mudryk’s test is unknown.
The Football Association has been contacted by BBC Sport for additional comment.
The 23-year-old has missed the last five games in all competitions since his last appearance for Chelsea on November 28.
Despite not playing, he was part of the matchday squad for the Blues’ victory over Aston Villa on December 1.
Enzo Maresca, the head coach, had stated in public that Mudryk’s absence was due to illness.
Mudryk has scored 10 goals in 73 games for Chelsea since joining from Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 in a move for up to £89 million.
