Mathias Pogba gets prison sentence for extortion and kidnapping charges against his brother Paul Pogba by Paris court.
Mathias Pogba was sentenced to three years in prison – two of which are suspended – by a Paris criminal court on Thursday.
The remainder of his sentence will be consequently served under home arrest under electronic monitoring; he has already served time in custody. The prosecution’s request was complied with by this sentencing. He will likely file an appeal against the decision, according to his attorney.
The former Manchester United and Juventus player was not present for the court case. Following an inquiry into whether Mathias and boyhood pals were extorting Paul in 2022, a court ordered Mathias and five other men to undergo trial. Last month, Mathias was put on trial “for the offences of criminal conspiracy and attempted extortion.”
“He is in a state of shock,” the lawyer, Mbeko Tabula, said. “From the outset, he has maintained his innocence. They did not take into account the fact that he has been manipulated, the fact that he has been forced to do things beyond his control.”
In March 2022, hooded men grabbed the France midfielder at gunpoint while the five others wanted €13 million. Paul was regularly threatened by the defendants. They said that after he rose to prominence as an international football player, he ought to have backed them. They were charged with criminal conspiracy, extortion, and kidnapping and incarceration to enable a crime.
Suspected of being the mastermind behind the blackmail, Roushdane K consequently received an eight-year prison sentence. The others were sentenced to prison as well.
After Mathias threatened to disclose “explosive” information about Paul’s agent. Rafaela Pimenta, and his brother, Kylian Mbappé, on social media, the case was made public. Mathias played football as well, playing for lower-tier European teams for the majority of his career.
