Bevon Jacobs continues his meteoric rise in International Cricket with New Zealand call-up against Sri Lanka.
Bevon Jacobs is having a 2024 that he must have not imagined in his wildest dreams.
The hard-hitting middle-order batsman has been awarded a call-up to the senior side to face Sri Lanka in the 3-match T20 series against Sri Lanka.
Despite not getting an opportunity to bat, Jacobs was a member of the New Zealand XI that played Sri Lanka in a 10-overs-a-side tour match on Monday in Lincoln.
The call-up comes hot on the heels of Jacobs being snapped up by Mumbai Indians in the recent IPL mega-auction. He joins fellow kiwis Trent Boult and his current white-ball skipper Mitchell Santner.
After an outstanding Super Smash campaign the previous season. In which he batted as a finisher and amassed 134 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 188.73. Jacobs was awarded his first IPL contract.
“It’s obviously an exciting time for Bevon and his family,” NZC selector Sam Wells said. “He’s a promising player with a lot of talent and we’re looking forward to exposing him to international cricket.
“He’s clearly got a lot of power with the bat. At the same time, he’s also shown in the longer formats that he has a decent technique and temperament.”
After completing the Auckland system, Jacobs moved to Canterbury. Where he made his List A and Twenty20 debuts a little more than a year ago. However, he came back to Auckland before the current home summer. He scored 75 and 79 in his first-class debut last month.
He scored 80 against his former team, Canterbury, after just missing out on another half-century in his last game.
Latham, Will Young, and Will O’Rourke will join the team for the one-day matches, while Jacobs, Foulkes, and Robinson have only been called up for the Twenty20 Internationals. After playing in all eight Test matches against Sri Lanka, India, and England, O’Rourke has been rested for the Twenty20 Internationals.
