Negotiations are anticipated to pick up speed on Tuesday after La Liga team Valencia made an approach for Carlos Corberán, the head coach of West Bromwich Albion. The Spanish team wants Corberán, who has a £3 million buyout clause, after firing Rubén Baraja on Monday.
Valencia, who have two victories in 17 league games and are now in second place in La Liga, appeal to Corberán both emotionally and athletically. He played for Valencia’s B team and academy after being born around 20 miles outside the city.
Since October 2022, Corberán has been at West Brom, who currently sit seventh in the Championship. He served as Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant at Leeds before taking over as head coach of Huddersfield and, for a little while, Olympiakos.
Valencia’s fourth-place result in 2019 earned them a spot in the Champions League. However, they haven’t advanced past ninth place since and were in another relegation fight two seasons ago.

Corberan’s native team, Valencia, is currently in second-bottom place in La Liga and four points from safety.
