AC Milan part ways with manager Paolo Fonseca after just six months in charge with the club languishing in 8th place.
AC Milan have sacked manager Paulo Fonseca after just six months in charge following their 1-1 draw at home to Roma.
As a result, the seven-time European champions were now 14 points behind joint-leaders Atalanta and Napoli in ninth position in the Serie A standings.
Milan has won four of its six games and lost two, placing them 12th in the 36-team Champions League standings.
Stefano Pioli, who led Milan to a second-place finish in the league the previous season and their first league triumph in eleven years in 2022, was replaced by Fonseca in June.
“The club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours,” read a statement on Milan’s website.
Speaking to reporters as he left San Siro on Sunday night, Fonseca appeared to confirm he had been dismissed.
“Yes, it’s true. I’m out,” Fonseca said from his car outside the stadium. “That’s life. I did everything I could.”
In the Italian Super Cup semi-finals, Milan will play Juventus in the first leg on January 3 and the second leg on January 18.
According to Italian media, Fonseca is anticipated to be replaced by former Porto manager Sergio Conceicao.
After six seasons with the Portuguese team, the former midfielder for Lazio, Parma, and Inter Milan departed Porto in June.
