Matheus Cunha gets 2-match ban and fine after Ipswich fracas that saw him push and shove an Ipswich steward.
Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two games and fined £80,000 following a melee after the Premier League game against Ipswich this month.
The highly influential Cunha will now miss the FA Cup match against Bristol City as well as league fixtures against Nottingham Forest.
After the final whistle, the forward was accused of acting improperly and was charged with misbehaviour. An independent regulatory commission later imposed the penalty after he acknowledged the charge.
As tensions erupted following the final whistle of Wolves’ stunning loss to the Tractor Boys, the Brazilian thrust his hand in front of a security guard.
While his case was being evaluated, Cunha, who has excelled for the Midlands club despite their difficulties, was permitted to play in games against Tottenham, Manchester United, and Leicester.
The 25-year-old, however, will now miss Wolves’ FA Cup third-round trip to Bristol City and their Premier League matchup against Nottingham Forest on Monday.
Given that the attacker was expected to miss some time anyhow after being substituted out at halftime in the weekend draw with Spurs, new Wolves manager Vitor Pereira may be grateful for the decision.
Pereira, who has had an undefeated start since taking Gary O’Neil’s place at Molineux, stated prior to their match in north London that the team was anticipating Cunha’s suspension.
‘We are trying to prepare other players because when it happens we must be ready with other players,’ the Wolves boss said.
