Noman Ali recalled as Pakistan revert to spin-heavy tactics for WI series as they name their squad for the home series.
Noman Ali is part of the Pakistan squad for the two-test home series against West Indies.
In an effort to strengthen their spin options, Pakistan has rested Naseem Shah and Mohammad Abbas from their Test team for the two-Test home series against the West Indies.
Pakistan recalled Mohammad Ali and selected fast bowler Kashif Ali for the first time, resting South Africa-playing players Aamer Jamal and Mir Hamza.
Sajid Khan is back with Noman Ali after playing a key part in the series victory over England earlier in the season. Abrar Ahmed has also been recalled by Pakistan.
With ten wickets from the two Test matches, including his 100th Test victim, Abbas finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the South Africa series. For three years, those were his first Test matches. His relaxing is probably also a function of the pitches’ anticipated condition, which helps spin and may not be a concern given his comparatively slower pace.
“As part of workload management, the pace quartet of Aamer Jamal, Mohammad Abbas, Mir Hamza, and Naseem Shah has been rested,” the PCB said in a media release.
Shaheen Afridi, who did not participate in the Test matches in South Africa, will not be included in the squad again. Shaheen and Naseem will have played two and three Test matches out of nine at the end of a home season that started with Pakistan highlighting their pace depth and playing an all-pace attack. Naseem is also out.
At the start of the season, both players were regarded as the attack’s pace leaders, but neither was able to play two Test matches in a row. Remarkably, neither player cracked the starting lineup in Pakistan’s most recent Test match against South Africa, as they launched an all-pace assault in Cape Town.
Additionally absent from the squad is Saim Ayub, who suffered a fracture to his right ankle during the opening Test match against South Africa. There will be a new opening lineup for the series as a result of Abdullah Shafique’s dismissal due to a protracted period of poor form that included three ducks in three ODIs in South Africa. Muhammad Hurraira and Imam-ul-Haq were chosen by the selectors to take their spots.
