Social media users have shared images of the 17-year-old preparing to depart South America, and others familiar with the matter have verified that Leon is heading to Manchester.
The Paraguayan, who plays on the left flank, has a contract worth about £6 million, including add-ons, according to previous reports from his club Cerro Porteno.
He would be the first new hire since Ruben Amorim took over as United’s head coach after Erik ten Hag was fired in October, if he signs.
Before joining United in the summer, Leon might be loaned back to his present team.
