At 39, Karthik became the first Indian cricketer to participate in the SA20 league. He joined Paarl Royals as a replacement for England’s Jos Buttler. In his debut match against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Karthik took on wicketkeeping duties, contributing to his team’s performance.

Reflecting on his decision to join the SA20, Karthik stated, “I genuinely believe this is the best competition after the IPL. I wanted to play some real competitive cricket, and I don’t think there is a better tournament than this.” He also expressed admiration for the talent present in the league, noting, “A lot of good talent out here. The first couple of days, when I came out here, I was pretty amazed to see how much talent is out here.”

He has been part of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 and ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2013 victories.
