CAF general secretary avoids legal action even though outcome of internal investigation remains to be heard.
CAF general secretary has avoided legal proceedings after an investigation into allegations of dishonest management, fraud and forgery.
Mosengo-Omba met with the Swiss public prosecutor’s office in November to respond to enquiries about the preliminary inquiry after denying the allegations, which were made public by the federal criminal court of Switzerland in October. On social media, he claimed that the payments were made in “complete transparency” and “complete compliance with Caf statutes” and that they were related to “remuneration and bonus” that he had received from Caf since taking over as general secretary.
Former FIFA chief member associations officer Mosengo-Omba, a close friend of Gianni Infantino and the general secretary of Caf in 2021, is still awaiting the results of an internal probe into claims of wrongdoing following a purported violation of the organization’s internal governance and auditing rules that were established in August.
A statement from Caf on Thursday read: “Caf welcomes the decision of the Swiss public prosecutor’s office and is pleased that there continues to be adherence and compliance within Caf and the Caf secretariat, with the culture and commitment to ethics, transparency and governance that was introduced since the presidency of Dr Patrice Motsepe.”
