Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh’s promising left-handed batsman Rinku Singh has played for India T20 International side since 2023. Since he is of evident talent and mostly bats quite low down, he hasn’t got much game time to significantly contribute to those matches he featured in.
Batting order plays a significant role in determining whether a player can have an impact on the game or not in T20I cricket. Rinku Singh has batted mainly in the lower middle order and, most of the time, entered the game when the top-order batsmen had already faced the majority of the deliveries. He often faced fewer balls as well, either due to the team losing early wickets or if the top order has set a massive target.
Despite the difficulties due to batting position, Rinku Singh has made some brilliant performances that he credits to the limited chances he has gained so far. By 2025, he has played several T20I matches and has scored aggressive runs with a high strike rate. In a T20I match, his top score was an unbeaten 69*, and he has consistently made value contributions for the team.
Though coming into bat quite often at much lower positions due to the limitation posed by few deliveries, thereby the need for Rinku to accelerate scores directly after making it to bat immediately, on other occasions the inning has rarely seen him batting over a series of overs for extended periods while unveiling his original capacity. Against T20 format where quick-flicker of innings is pretty critical, at instances Rinku found himself trying at all cost because batting under stress at lower batting orders is part and parcel.
To fully utilize the potential of Rinku Singh, it would be great for the team management to promote him to a better batting position. Batting at No. 4 or No. 5 would allow him to face more deliveries, thereby giving him a better platform to showcase his skills and adapt to the game’s demands. Such an adjustment might lead to better consistency and greater contribution to the success of the team.
No one can deny Rinku Singh’s talent. The fact that he plays aggressively and accepts the bowling puts him on the coveted list of valuable players. Yet, for him to be established in India’s T20I setup, it would be a huge deal if more opportunities to bat higher in the order come his way. Then, only through a consistent batting position would he be able to settle into an innings, get a view of the situation, and contribute substantially.
In conclusion, Rinku Singh has the ability to be a match-winner for India in T20Is. However, his current batting position often denies him the opportunities to make a difference in the game. This is because when he is allowed to bat higher up the order, the team can make full use of his skills, thereby leading to much more success in the future not only for him but also for the Indian cricket team.
