Geyse feeling lonely at Man United as talks over loan move go on with NWSL club Gotham FC for the Brazilian.
Geyse ‘lonely’ at Manchester United as Gotham FC enter loan talks.
The NWSL team Gotham FC and Manchester United are in advanced negotiations on the Brazil forward Geyse’s possible loan signing. Before the new NWSL season begins on March 14, the Women’s Super League team hopes to finalise a deal in the next few days.
In a social media post on Sunday, Geyse talked of feeling “lonely” and in pain after entering the game as a late substitution in the 2-0 victory over Leicester.
Her remarks were made the same night that Geyse’s agency told the Telegraph that, while she was at her brother’s funeral in January, Manchester United had attempted to loan Geyse to other teams.
A spokesperson for Manchester United Women said: “We continue to support Geyse in her wellbeing, and are continuing to look for options which suit all parties.”
Writing on Instagram, the Brazil forward did not specifically mention Manchester United but wrote: “Staying in a place where we don’t feel happy is an agonising and lonely feeling. Every day seems heavier, and the simple fact of being there becomes a burden. The environment, which should be welcoming, becomes a field of discomfort, where inner peace is difficult to find.”
The 26-year-old Geyse joined the team from Barcelona in 2023, and he has since scored two goals in the league. Following the death of her brother in January, the club offered her compassionate leave. Geyse and Manchester United are rumoured to have been collaborating closely to determine the best course of action for her during a trying time, including moving closer to her family.
Club sources claim that Manchester United would like not lose Geyse at a crucial juncture in the season, but because the former Benfica and Corinthians forward is eager to move to North America, other possibilities have been considered.
On Sunday her agent Luís Filipe Silva said to the Telegraph: “As you know, her brother passed away, she is going through a very difficult time, it is a very difficult time psychologically and at Man United she is not having the best time.
“The club has clearly shown that it does not count on Geyse, Man United tried to loan Geyse to a club in the USA, but the player has the right to decide about her future and the club she will play for. The best solution for all parties is to leave and, I repeat, Man United was the first to try to loan the player when she was at her brother’s funeral.”
