George Linde called in as emergency cover for Aiden Markram as the latter hurt his right hamstring in the field against England.
George Linde, the left-arm spin bowling allrounder, will join the South African squad as a traveling reserve as cover for Aiden Markram.
Markram was sidelined for the remainder of the game after hurting his right hamstring in the field against England. To ascertain his eligibility for the semi-final matchup with New Zealand, he will take a fitness test during training on Tuesday night.
Markram is the most recent member of an extensive list of wounded athletes. Even before the competition began, fast bowlers Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, Nandre Burger, and Lizaad Williams were disqualified.
Although Linde will arrive at the South African camp on Tuesday night, he won’t formally take Markram’s position in the squad until he is ruled out and the switch is approved by the ICC event technical committee.
If South Africa advances to the Dubai final against India, where the conditions are drier and they want an extra spinner, they probably added him to the group. Only Keshav Maharaj, one of their two specialist spinners, has played in Pakistan. The other is Tabraiz Shamsi. In their most recent encounter against New Zealand in Dubai, India used four spinners.
Linde was instrumental in MI Cape Town’s first-ever championship success in the 2025 SA20. Linde took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.29 and amassed 161 runs at a strike rate of 153.33 in 11 games. He most recently scored 106 runs and claimed four wickets in five games while representing Western Province in the One-Day Challenge Division One.
Kwena Maphaka, a left-arm fast bowler, is also included in the team as a travelling reserve. Temba Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi, meanwhile, will workout this evening after recuperating from their illnesses.
