President’s Trophy final in Pakistan sees Saud Shakeel timed out after arriving late at the crease batting at 4.
President’s Trophy Final, a competition in Pakistan’s domestic cricket seen Saud Shakeel get dismissed in the most unusual way.
After two wickets went in two balls, Shakeel, who was playing for State Bank of Pakistan, came out of the dugout late. Shakeel was not prepared to take guard within the allotted three minutes, therefore PTV’s captain, Amad Butt, made an appeal.
Shakeel was caught off guard by the quick loss of two wickets. He is currently the seventh batsman to be timed out in first-class cricket.
Butt appealed, and the umpires decided that he had not been ready within three minutes, after which a timed-out appeal could be filed. He had come to the crease to meet the delivery. Angelo Matthews became the only cricket player to be removed in this way during an international match, making it the most recent and well-publicized dismissal in top-tier cricket. Shakib-al-Hasan successfully appealed for time out during Sri Lanka’s 2023 World Cup match versus Bangladesh.
The President’s Trophy final is unique for reasons other than the infrequent dismissal. The PCB made the decision to play the entire tournament at night, with a day’s play lasting from 7:30pm to 2.30am, with tea and dinner breaks in between sessions, because Ramadan is a time when pious Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from daylight to sunset.
Imran Butt, the former opener for Pakistan, scored 89 runs, while Shahzad’s hat-trick helped PTV dismiss State Bank of Pakistan for 205.
