Mitch Owen to join PBKS after PSL stint with Zalmi as replacement for Glenn Maxwell.
Glenn Maxwell, who was ruled out of the 2025 Indian Premier League due to a finger fracture, has been replaced by Mitchell Owen, one of the most exciting short-format hitters in recent months, for the Punjab Kings (PBKS). After Owen’s time with Peshawar Zalmi in the current PSL season, he will sign a three-crore rupee contract to join PBKS.
PSL play ends on May 18. Owen can only depart if Zalmi advances to the championship round. Owen will only be available for selection if PBKS advance to the playoffs, which start on May 20, as their league-stage IPL commitments expire on May 16.
The 23-year-old Tasmanian top-order batsman Owen sprang to fame at the most recent BBL tournament, where he led the league in runs scored and was instrumental in the Hobart Hurricanes’ run to victory. He won Player-of-the-Match with a score of 108 off 42 balls in the final. Owen finished with 452 runs from 11 innings, scoring at an average of 45.20 and a strike rate of 203.60. Since then, he has participated in the PSL and SA20.
He replaced Corbin Bosch at Zalmi in the PSL after Bosch broke his agreement to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) in order to replace Lizaad Williams, who was injured. After that, the PCB sent Bosch a legal notice and a one-year ban from the competition.
“I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the PSL, and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi, and the wider cricket community,” Bosch, who has played two games for MI in IPL 2025, said in a statement released by the PCB at the time.
