Kapp and Sekhukhune return for South Africa’s side to face the West Indies in a white-ball series next month.
Marizanne Kapp and Sekhukhune, along with Ayanda Hlubi make a return to South Africa’s white-ball squads for their tour of the West Indies next month after being rested for the tri-series in Sri Lanka in April-May.
Kapp last appeared for South Africa in the December home series against England, and he last played at any level in the WPL in March. She returns to the team in anticipation of the ODI World Cup after spending the last two months on a training block.
The two losers from the Sri Lanka series are legspinner Seshnie Naidu and batswoman Lara Goodall, with Goodall not being kept on despite Anneke Bosch’s ongoing absence. Due to her sickness, Bosch was unable to participate in the Sri Lanka series, and she is still recovering.
Karabo Meso, a 17-year-old wicketkeeper, has maintained her spot in the team, providing South Africa with two options behind the stumps. Sinalo Jafta is also part of the travelling group. Additionally, they have provided themselves with five spin options, including 20-year-old all-rounder Miane Smit, who made her debut in ODIs in Sri Lanka and may make her first T20I appearance in the West Indies, offspinner Nondumiso Shangase, seasoned all-rounders Chloe Tryon and Sune Luus, and left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba.
With South Africa’s schedule being relatively short before the World Cup, the T20I series will be coach Mandla Mashimbyi’s first in the shortest format since he took over in December of last year. It will not be as significant as the ODIs.
Before the ODI World Cup in India in September and October, South Africa will play the West Indies in three ODIs, followed by three T20Is, and then three more ODIs against Pakistan. There will be a lot to consider. After losing three of their four league stage games—two to India and one to Sri Lanka—and winning just three of their previous 13 ODIs, they were eliminated from the tri-series final in Sri Lanka. South Africa finished as the losing finalists in the 2023 and 2024 T20 World Cups and as semi-finalists in the 2022 ODI World Cup.
All six matches in the Caribbean will take place at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados, starting on June 11.
