GT bowlers losing steam and form at the wrong time as lack of bowling partnerships has left GT vulnerable off late.
GT bowlers ‘losing form at the wrong time’
Gujarat Titans (GT) are struggling with an untimely decline in bowling form, which could prove expensive towards the conclusion of the competition, despite their stellar IPL 2025 run that made them the first team to qualify for the playoffs. After the mini-break, GT’s bowling unit, which is renowned for their controlled attack, has been uneasy. After winning eight of eleven games prior to the IPL’s hiatus, they have already lost two of their three games since it began. During those games, their bowlers have given up 664 runs and taken just 10 wickets.
Tom Moody praised R Sai Kishore, the only player to have taken at least one wicket in each of those three games, for his consistency following their most recent defeat to the bottom-place Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 83 runs on Sunday. However, he also pointed out that GT is vulnerable due to the lack of strong bowling partnerships. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who has 23 wickets and is ranked second on the Purple Cap table, have both made contributions, but their recent results have been erratic.
“It is a concern that a number of their bowlers are losing form at the wrong time,” Moody said on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out show. “Coming into the finals, one area of your game you want to be absolutely confident with is your bowling attack and everyone not looking over their shoulder but looking to take the responsibility themselves. And I look at their attack and really there’s only one bowler that’s bowling well and the rest are trying to find form.
“And that’s probably being a little bit harsh on Sai Kishore because I think he’s been quite consistent, but it’s nearly like his bowling has been swept away along with many other bowlers purely because they haven’t been able to build the most important thing, and that’s those partnerships with the ball.”
