Liverpool confirm Jeremie Frimpong signing following Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid last evening.
By making a club record £109 million bid for Florian Wirtz and paying £29.5 million to capture his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool has begun their ambitious ambitions to build on their Premier League title victory. The actions were taken on the same day that Liverpool consented to allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to sign a £10 million deal with Real Madrid early.
Liverpool confirm the signing of Frimpong, who becomes their first arrival of the summer. The Netherlands international’s contract has a €35 million (£29.5 million) release clause that Liverpool activated. The money will be paid in three yearly installments. Although Frimpong can play right-back, Liverpool does not view him as a comparable replacement for Alexander-Arnold, as Conor Bradley and other players are vying for the position.
The 24-year-old’s versatility as a wing-back and an orthodox winger increased Liverpool’s appeal and expanded Slot’s tactical choices for the upcoming campaign, which will see Mohamed Salah miss time due to the Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco is set to host that competition from December 21 to January 18.
“It went quite easy,” said Frimpong about his move to Liverpool. “For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’.
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.”
