Miron Muslic appointed by German side Schalke as new head coach after being sacked by Plymouth after the season.
Schalke have appointed Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic as their head coach on a two-year deal.
The 42-year-old Austrian, who was born in Bosnia, will not be rejoining the team after the summer break, the Pilgrims said on Wednesday.
In mid-January, while Plymouth was at the bottom of the Championship, Muslic took over as Argyle’s manager, succeeding former England captain Wayne Rooney.
Even though he orchestrated a historic FA Cup victory over Premier League winners Liverpool, he was unable to prevent the team from being demoted from the second division.
Muslic will begin the fourth season in the last five outside of the Bundesliga for Schalke, a team that placed 14th in the German second division this season. Schalke was a consistent participant in the Champions League and Europa League for the first 20 years of this century.
“My thanks go first to Plymouth Argyle, who made it possible for me to hold talks with FC Schalke 04,” said Muslic.
“I’m also very grateful to all those at Schalke for placing their trust in me. From the very first contact, we had open and honest discussions.”
