New BCB board to focus on decentralization of operations following a four-hour-long board meeting by new president.
New BCB board focuses on decentralization of operations.
In an effort to decentralise the game, the Bangladesh Cricket Board declared on Saturday that it would be launching two pilot projects, or mini BCBs.
A day after taking office, Aminul Islam, the recently elected president of BCB, held a four-hour board meeting. He used a visual presentation to share his vision for Bangladesh cricket during that conference.
His emphasis seems to be on decentralising the game and bringing financial transparency throughout the presentation.
“This is the first time I saw a board president give a presentation. It was based on his experience (working in the ICC). We have kicked off four programmes. They are called – Protect the spirit of the game, High performance for everyone, Connect and grow, Transparency and good governance in all areas. The president has said that transparency must take the highest priority in the BCB.
“Decentralization will kick off immediately. We will have offices in Rajshahi and Chattogram. Those will be pilot projects. It will be like mini BCBs. We are activating the existing plan. We have been hearing about regional cricket since 2000,” BCB director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu told reporters following the meeting.
“We are immediately launching these two pilot projects. One will be based in Rajshahi (North Bengal) and the other in the South and it’s been a long-standing dream to decentralize our operations-development of coaches, umpires, curators will now take place through structured programs beginning with a talent hunt,” he said.
“BPL teams have been told to inform us about their due payments. We will only release the money from our side once we have verified their information by talking to the players. Barishal has no pending. Rangpur will clear before Eid. The other five teams have due. I must add that the BCB is only responsible for players from the draft. If we find out that these players haven’t been paid, the board will pay the rest of the amount. After that, we will go for legal action (against the franchises). Players have suffered and it has hurt our brand image,” said Iftekhar,
“We are still to get BDT 20 crore from sponsors and franchise fees. We will have BDT 75 lakh profit when this money arrives. If we don’t get the money from every source, it will be a loss-making tournament,” he said.
