City Women set to appoint Denmark manager Jeglertz with latter to stay in charge of Denmark for upcoming Euro 2025.
City women set to make Denmark national team manager, Andrée Jeglertz, as their new women’s head coach.
According to reports, the proposed transfer would allow the Swedish coach to continue leading Denmark until the end of the European Championship in Switzerland this summer, after which she would take over the Women’s Super League team that placed fourth in the English top division the previous season.
Although a contract with Jeglertz has not yet been finalised, several sources have stated that talks are progressing and that he is City’s first choice following a thorough search to replace Gareth Taylor, who was fired in March. Although Nick Cushing was appointed as the team’s temporary manager, it is believed that he was not considered for the long-term role.
Jeglertz took over as manager of Denmark after the World Cup in 2023, but according to reports in the Danish media on Tuesday, the Danish Football Association has already lined up his likely successor in preparation for his departure following this summer’s European Championship. Since it is thought that his contract with the Danish FA will end following the tournament, neither restitution nor a release fee would be necessary.
With a team that included Brazil legend Marta, the 53-year-old has vast experience coaching women’s sports. In 2004, she led the Swedish club Umeå to win the women’s European Cup, which was then known as the Uefa Women’s Cup.
City thinks his coaching and tactical ideas meet the ideal profile of the City Football Group and that he fits their blueprint for a technical style of play. Therese Sjögran, the managing director, and Charlotte O’Neill, the director of women’s football, spearheaded the search for Taylor’s replacement. Since their respective arrivals in 2024 and 2023, this is their first significant assignment.
During his more than 22-year managing career, Jeglertz has also managed the Finland national team, the Swedish teams Djurgården and Linköping. He played as a defender for Umeå most of the time and for Sweden in youth international competitions.
