Russell Martin is new Rangers head coach after signing a three-year contract to start a fresh era at Ibrox stadium.
At the beginning of a new era at Ibrox, Russell Martin stated that he is aware of “what this club demands” after agreeing to a three-year contract to take over as Rangers’ director.
After a hiring process that apparently also involved former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti, the former Southampton and Swansea City manager emerged as the front-runner.
Last week, a US-based group managed by Andrew Cavenagh and comprising the San Francisco 49ers’ investment arm successfully acquired the team.
“From my time here, I had a taste of how special this club is, the expectation, the passion and the history,” he said. “As I return, I’m determined to bring success back.
“I’m here to set standards, work hard and do my very best to earn the respect of the Rangers fans.
“There’s a lot to be done, but the goal is clear: win matches, win trophies and give Rangers fans a team that they can be proud of.
“We want to play with bravery, to take the ball, to be aggressive, and to stand up in the big moments.”
Martin serves as head coach rather than manager, which is consistent with Rangers’ new organisational structure, which includes former Everton colleague Dan Purdy as technical director and Kevin Thelwell as sporting director.
Rhys Owen, the performance coach, and assistant Matt Gill will join him at Rangers. There are currently no confirmed additions to the coaching staff.
Later on Thursday, Martin is anticipated to address the media.
