KSCA sees resignation of its Secretary and treasurer in the aftermath of the stampede-like situation near Chinnaswamy.
KSCA secretary, treasurer resign citing ‘moral responsibility’.
Two high-ranking members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), treasurer ES Jairam and secretary A Shankar, have resigned, citing “moral responsibility” for the fracas at Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebration on Wednesday. Raghuram Bhat, the president of the KSCA, has received the resignation letters.
Eleven people were killed and numerous others were injured during the celebration of RCB’s maiden IPL title victory in eighteen tries.
In the communication to the KSCA on Friday night, Shankar and Jairam wrote: “Due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days, and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as secretary and treasurer of the KSCA.”
The RCB franchise was the subject of a first information report (FIR) filed by the Bengaluru Police on Thursday. The police said in the FIR that they had refused the RCB permission to hold the event at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the stampede took place. Along with the KSCA, which is in charge of the stadium, and DNA Entertainment, the franchise’s event partners, RCB was named as the first culprit in the FIR.
Following the incident, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah removed his predecessor from his position, and new police commissioner SK Singh ordered the arrest of Nikhil Sosale, the RCB’s head of marketing and revenue, which the police confirmed on Friday.
After the arrest, RCB has not yet released an official comment. However, the franchise promised to pay for the medical bills of those hurt in the event and stated on Thursday that each of the deceased would receive INR 10 lakh in compensation.
