Spurs sack Postecoglou after two years in charge and weigh move to appoint current Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs sack Postecoglou despite the Australian taking them to the Europa League triumph.
Spurs ended a 17-year trophy drought on May 21 when Postecoglou led them to Europa League victory after defeating Manchester United in the final in Bilbao. Fans were in a state of ecstasy, expressing relief and believing that he should be given the opportunity to continue playing the part.
However, based on Postecoglou’s Premier League results for the majority of his two-year tenure, the chair, Daniel Levy, and the rest of the board unanimously decided that he had to leave after taking stock since the season’s final match against Brighton on May 25.
After arriving from Celtic with Spurs at a low point following an eighth-place finish in 2022–2023, Postecoglou won eight and drew two of his first ten league games. However, Spurs put this information in their statement confirming Postecoglou’s departure, which was released just after 5 p.m. BST. His league record since then was 78 points from 66 games.
The team also emphasised how their worst Premier League result to date was finishing in 17th place with 38 points this past season. Their league record has only been worse once, in 1914–15.
Frank has impressed with his excellent performance at Brentford, and Spurs have met with middlemen to talk a move for him. In October 2018, when they were in the Championship, the Dane assumed control of west London and helped them advance through the 2020–21 playoffs. They finished 10th with 56 points this past season, proving that he has established them in the elite tier.
Although Spurs respect Silva’s work at Fulham, Frank seems to be their top aim. At Brentford, each employee and player has a cost. Tottenham must choose whether to make the £10 million payment. The club has also expressed interest in Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace and Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth, but both players seem unattainable.
