Robertson under Atlético Madrid transfer radar as Liverpool close to signing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez for £45m.
Atletico Madrid is showing interest in Andy Robertson as Liverpool gets closer to paying around £45 million to capture Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. In order to compete with the veteran 31-year-old Scotland defender, the Premier League winners intended to sign Kerkez, but they are at ease with the interest. No official contact is believed to have been made with Liverpool as of yet.
It is anticipated that Bournemouth’s acquisition of Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert will be the catalyst for Kerkez’s transfer. Other clubs expressed interest in the 23-year-old Rennes captain, who has agreed to personal terms and is anticipated to cost around £15 million.
Robertson, who is nearing the end of his contract, recently talked of “new blood” coming to Anfield this summer. Florian Wirtz is set to follow in a deal of a guaranteed £100 million, while Jeremie Frimpong has joined from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million. Following a £29 million transaction last summer, Georgia custodian Giorgi Mamardashvili, a star of Euro 2024, will finalise his transfer from Valencia.
“We’ve had good discussions with me and the club but what the future holds I am not sure,” Robertson said last week, while on international duty with Scotland. “When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect competition and I have always faced that, everyone here has faced that in their own positions and I expect nothing less.
“I want the club to be ambitious, they are doing that and wherever we fit into that, if we’re happy with our role, we stay and we do it and if not then I am sure there will be a few out the door as well. But, you know, that’s the nature of football and it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and we keep moving.”
