Taremi to miss Club World Cup for Inter after Israeli strikes close Iran’s airports leaving him stranded at Tehran.
Due to the growing tension between Iran and Israel, Mehdi Taremi, an Inter forward, will be unable to travel to the United States to play in the Club World Cup with his teammates.
Following two days of military attacks between Iran and Israel, all Iranian airport flights have been halted. The Iran international was therefore unable to go to Los Angeles on Saturday as planned to join his teammates.
Regardless of whether Iranian airspace reopens, Taremi will not play in the remaining games, according to Italian media, and he will miss Inter’s opening encounter against Monterrey on Wednesday.
Last year, Taremi moved from Porto to Inter. In Serie A last season, he made seven starts, came off the bench 19 times, and scored one goal for the runners-up. Despite playing 12 games throughout their Champions League run, he did not play as a substitute in the team’s 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the championship game.
He scored in Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over North Korea in Iran’s World Cup qualifying match.
